Is A White Scab Over The Area Of Clot Post Molar Extraction Normal?

I had a molar taken out 2 days ago. The pain was minor and annoying the first night and it took a few hours for it to stop bleeding. Since then its gotten better. Advil had been helping with the minor pain. Im parinoid about dry socket bad. Currently I have a white looking scab over where the clot would be. Is that normal considering its only been 2 days? Im scared its dry socket, but it doesnt appear to be deep enough. Any explanation would be great to put my mind at ease.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM team.

Understanding your concern.
As per your query you have white tissue on your socket 2 days after extraction .Well its no necessarily a dry socket .Because there are other symptoms associated with dry socket like feverish feel ,moderate to dull pain radiating towards ear which starts 2 days after extraction and bad breath .

The dry socket occur due dislodgement of clot from socket of clot from the socket when we smoke ,suck or rinse forcefully.

I would suggest you to complete antibiotic course as prescribe by the dentist.Do warm water rinses ,but very gently,Continue advil as its helping you and do not smoke or eat anything hard.

If there will be symptoms of dry socket as mention above immediately visit dentist .Dentist may perform cleansing of socket with betadine regularly for 2-3 days ,extend the course of antibiotics or give you medicated dressing.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
