Is Abdominal Cramping And Passing Blood Clot With History Of Light Bleeding Throughout Pregnancy Concerning?
My daughter is 10 weeks pregnant & has been experiencing light bleeding from the beginning. A short time ago she experienced what she described as a gas pain and went to the bathroom. She passed a blood clot about the size of a half dollar along with fecal matter. She now has light abdominal cramping. Do we go to the ER (it is New Years Eve I m concerned about the wait) or is she better off laying down?
Hi, Thanks for the query. Spotting can be seen in early pregnancy sometimes due to different causes like : - Increased blood supply to local genital organs -Growing gestational sac can damage small blood vessels in the uterine wall. -Possibility of abortion etc. So, if the bleeding is continuous, better to consult gynecologist once and get examined. If the pain and bleeding subsides, she can take bed rest and can go to doctor when she is available. Better to undergo ultrasound once to check the wellbeing of the fetus. Progesterone supplementation may needed to prevent the miscarriage. Take care.
