Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had graves diagnosed about 10 years ago. methamazole until normal range with no anti-thyroid meds for 5 years. Just went a-fib with two cardioversions about 3 weeks in normal sinus rhythm in-between yet I m barely out of range on thyroid panel. Should I get ablation for the a-fib even if I m back in range within a few months?
HI welcome to HCM. I understand your query and concern. Atrial fibrillation is extremely common in patients with Grave's Disease.Since you had two episodes of Cardioversion requiring Atrial fibrillation ,its extremely important that you undergo electrophysiological study documenting the exact site and amplitude of ectopic impulse.Radiofrequency ablation will offer permanent cure in your case.I strongly recommend RFA in your case even though your are currently asymptomatic.Continue methimazole as prescribed by your Doctor. Its extremely important to get a complete Thyroid profile as well.Consult your Doctor for expert management.Post your further queries,if any. Thank you.
