Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I think I may have accidentally taken two atenolol 100-25, the diuretic beta-blocker combo pills an hour apart. What are the things to check for? Should I just hang out near an er just in case or is it not as serious as that? If so are there some good things to do? Like stay hydrated and eat healthy portions if food? Thank you.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Maninder's Response
Hi,
The most common side effects that may happen with overdose are low blood pressure and low heart rate.
As the peak plasma levels of drug are reached between 4-6 hours of ingestion, you are advised to keep a check on both of these parameters around that approximate time.
Although you have not ingested a dose that is too high but yet chances are that these might happen and should not be ignored.
You should take a lot of water so that blood volume is good enough to combat for any such changes.
Also eat something salty for now. Also avoid sudden changes in posture from lying down to sitting and sitting to standing that may cause abrupt decrease in BP.
However, if you feel any symptoms like dizziness, feeling of fainting, blurred or distorted vision, nausea and overly fatigue then these are the signs that you might be having low BP.
Good for you if you can go to a health facility because any dose above the recommended dose should not be taken lightly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Maninder, General & Family Physician
