Is Acidophilis Right Medicine For Acute Diarrhea?

Hi - My husband just finished taking Prednizone & Cephalexin for an apparent bad reaction to an allergic response to something blooming in our beautiful area. He s experiencing acute diarrhea in the last 2 days since completing these meds. I suggested he try Acidophilis. I understand yogurt might help as well, but he doesn t care for yogurt. Is the Acidophilis ok, and do you have any other suggestions? Thank you.

Emergency Medicine Specialist 's  Response
hi there,
I am Dr. Deepak, I am working as an Emergency physician.
As you have told, your husband had developed very bad allergic response to something blooming in your beautiful area. For which he was prescribed medication. After taking the medication his allergic thing improved but he started to have diarrhea. please correct me if I made any mistake.
Now It seem that your husband is having complication because of medication. Acidopilus can be taken in this condition, it will restore the normal good gut bacteria. I think its already been 2 days since the on set of diarrhea and he is still having it.
In that case I would suggest you should take antibiotic which works specifically for the gut. I would recommend Tab Meterogyl 400mg, 3 times a day for 10 days and other supportive treatment like ORS solution for loose motions along with soft diet containing less amount of roughage, and high in protein and carbohydrates in the diet.
Thank you.
Hope your husband recover soon.
