Is Acute Myeloid Leukemia A Genetic Disorder?

My younger sister, age 57, died recently with AML. Can this be genetically transferred? Our paternal grandmother died with blood cancer. This was in the 1980 s, so there was not a definite diagnosis. She did have the blue spots, especially on her arms. How can the family know if we carry this gene? Thank you, Lois Purkey
