Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Alcohol Consumption Harmful Post Haemorrhoids Surgery?
I am a piles patient and I drink alcohol almost regularly.recently I have gone through surgery of piles. I want to know weather drinking alcohol causes any side effects immediately after surgery or not if yes then also wants to know what kind of side effects
Alcohol facilitates the development of gastroesophageal reflux disease by reducing the pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter and esophageal motility. Alcohol facilitates the development of superficial gastritis and chronic atrophic gastritis. The main alcohol-related intestinal alterations are diarrhea and malabsorption, with recovery after restoring a normal diet. Alcohol facilitates the development of oropharyngeal, esophageal, gastric, and colon cancer. Alcohol reduces the strength of muscle contraction in rectum and may potentially reduce fecal transit time. This may cause retention of stool (constipation). Any kind of constipation will aggravate piles bleeding. So it is better to avoid alcohol immediately after surgery. You can consume alcohol after complete healing of surgical wound which may take up to 3 months. Thanks
