Is Alcohol Consumption Safe While On Xanax?

I take Xanax for Sleep. My last does was 2mg prior to a good six hours sleep, that was 12 hours ago. Can I still go out with the Wife for drinks tonight? I ve been on the medicine for only 3 days. Thank you for your input. I am a big man, 6ft 250b if that matters. Thanks again. -B

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Xanax contains alprazolam. Alcohol and alprazolam should not be taken together. It is not about the physical features, last dose or duration of treatment that matters.
This is because the two would interact and can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness and difficulty in concentrating.
Some may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment.
Hence, you should avoid use of alcohol while being treated with medications Xanax.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
Best wishes.
