Is Alcohol Safe To Consume While Being On Antirabies Vaccine For Dogbite?

Hi, I know that you've seen this question before, but I just need to know in more details. I got biten by a god (probably male, not stray, but unleashed) more than a month ago. It could happen because my dog (female) was in her period and this male dog could sense the smell. Anyway, I got bitten so I'm taking antirabies vaccine now here, in Ukraine. It's calle KOKAB (I assume, it's CCV, concentrated vaccine). I was wondering, is it any harm to drink alcohol? I don't mean excessive consumption, but still I was told by my local doctor not to drink ANY alcohol during 6 months from the first shot. Why is that?

Hi. Welcome to HCM. Yes it is better to avoid alcohol consumption after rabies vaccination. Alcohol consumption can mimic the symptoms of mental issues when rabies hits your system: confusion, agitation, anxiety etc. It would be hard to tell if your symptoms are from the alcohol or from the exposure to rabies. One more reason is alcohol is a mild immunosuppresant (reduces immunity) and this can compromise the effect of vaccine. So better avoid it . Wish u good health

Hello,
There is no problem in consuming moderate amount of alcohol while being on anti rabies vaccine.Few people do say that you should avoid alcohol for 6 or 9 months after the first shot of anti rabies vaccine but in reality there is no truth in this statement.
Thanks
