Is Amoxicillin Prescribed For Pityrosporum Folliculitis?

My daughter has pityrosporum folliculitis and is currently using ketaconazole shampoo as cleanser every other day and ketaconazole cream every day. Her skin is improving great. She was treated for regular acne for 2 years before proper diagnosis. The only thing that I question is the dr. Also put her on amoxicillin and said to clear up the infection causing this. This doesn't seem right to me. I took her off amoxicillin and will try a new dermatologist for a second opinion. The pityrosporum is on her face, neck, chest, shoulders and back. She is improving though. Have you ever heard of amoxicillin prescribed for this?

Hello Thanks for writing here.Folliculitis is a infection of hair roots. It can be due to fungal bacterial and allergic. It is highly possible that your doctor is thinking of bacterial cause and therefore he prescribed amoxicillin.Continue with ketoconazole .Hope this will help you.Take care.
