Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is An A1C Level Of 6.4 Indicative Of Pre-diabetes?
I was diagnosed Oct 2014 with diabetes when I went into the hospital. I have worked very hard, lost 50 lbs, taking karate now, walking 2 miles, very active. My last 2 A1C tests were 6.4. How many months do I need to be at 6.4 to be considered pre-diabetic? Doc has taken me off one diabetes med and has halved my blood pressure med.
If you are on medications for diabetes and having HbA1C levels of 6.4, this means you are having good control of diabetes. Because you are having this level of AbA1C while on treatment, this can not be considered prediabetes but well-controlled diabetes. I would encourage you to continue with the healthy lifestyle changes you are having, to also take the treatment as recommended and have regular follow-ups with your doctor.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
