Is An AST Of 108 And ALT Of 196 Worrisome?

My husband just had a wellness screening through work. He is healthy, active, etc. He got his results back and had a AST of 108 and a ALT of 196. Of course, it's a long weekend, and now we're both nervous. Is there anything you can tell us? He is 35, 6 ft. He has a slender frame, but he plays hockey and is active.

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Increased ALT indicates liver injury.Increase in ALT may be due to many reasons like hepatitis, alcohol intake, altered lipid profile, medicines, auto immune causes etc.
Increased AST is non specific and it increases in many conditions.

He need few other investigations like routine hemogram,Random blood sugar(RBS),Liver function test(LFT),Lipid profile,Renal function test(RFT),ultrasound of abdomen.Further investigations can be done if needed.

He should avoid red meat and high fat milk products.

Proper treatment depend upon findings

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.

Take Care
