Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are there reasons to be concerned ... I had a hysterectomy in November 2016 to remove a 32cm fibroid...kept ovaries... Up to my pre-op bloodwork the week prior, my MPV had been around 8... my MPV week before surgery was 12.6 and has now fluctuated the last 10 months from 11.0 to 11.8... is there cause for concern. Normal upper range at Yale is 11. My doctors have not really said much about it and I don t know if they realize it has been elevated for 10 months straight. I have also had continual bowel issues since 3 days after surgery. They know but have not been wholly alarmed. I am having Upper GI and Colonoscopy in September. Just my MPV being elevated... is there cause for concern? Can any inflammation cause elevation in MPV or only cancers?

As per my surgical experience, the mentioned mean platelet volumes are all fine around normal range. I do not suspect any problem regarding the same to think of cancer or any other inadvertent outcome of surgery complications at all.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
