Is An Extra Course Of Z-pak Advisable For Persistent Mild Cough?

I have just completed a course of zpak for severe respiratory distress, coughing, runny eyes, etc. While i am significantly improved, I am not 100 %. My nose is clear but I still have a slight cough. Is another course of zpak warranted to insure full recovery? I am a 68 yr. old man with heart issues. Thank you.

Hello,

Azithromyin (Z pack) was to resolve the infection you had in the upper respiratory tract. You do not need to take another course of the antibiotic for some unresolved symptoms.

Supplemental therapy will suffice for the cough problem you have. Do warm salt water gargles 3-4 times a day. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide combined with Chlorpheniramine Maleate cough syrup (Tossex DMR) 10 ml thrice a day for 7 days will help in resolving cough. Try to cough the sputum out whenever you get it and not swallow it back. Cough drops or lozenges (Strepsil) available over the counter can help, too.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic.

Best,
