Is An Extra Dosage Of Contraceptive Needed For Unprotected Sex Post Menstruation?

Hi! Just finished my period today and had sex, he was only able to get the head of the penis inside my vagina. He pulled out soon after he tried 3 times. I just took Tri Sprintec for the first time. Do I take another pill in 12 hours or 24 hours?? I don t want to get pregant!

Thanks for writing to HCM.
I understand your concern that you don't want to get pregnant.
Even though you had non-penetrative or partial penetrative sex, there is a risk for getting pregnant.
But what drug you are taking is not an emergency contraceptive pill. Tri Sprintec is a regular contraceptive pill which has to be taken regularly one pill a day for the entire period from day 1 of your menstrual period. It will start its protection activity by a week. Hence it is difficult to say that this pill would offer any protection right now.
However, since you had sex on 1st day after your period, the chances of ovulation is less since it us not your fertile period and hence there is very less chances for you to become pregnant.
You can continue the pill since you have started and hope for getting your next period.
