Is Anionic Band During Pregnancy With No Contact With The Fetus A Concern?

Hi doctor. I am currently pregnant 12 weeks pregnancy. I was told I have anionic band at 9 weeks pregnancy and the band is tethered at both ends. Which means it s not affecting the baby. I had an scan done recently on my 12 weeks, it is still there. No touch to the baby. Shall I be concerned?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Anionic band is a harmless piece of placenta in the uterus. As it is not in contact with the fetus, nothing much to worry. Do frequent follow up scan and assess whether the band is in contact with fetal neck, if the band surround the neck the normal labor will be difficult and we might require cesarean section. Otherwise nothing to worry about it. Your gynecologist will explain in detail.

Wishing all the best.

Thanks.
