Is Anti-rabies Vaccination Necessary For A Dog Scratch In A Child?
Hi my 8 yr old son got a mere scatch on his hand by a dog and it s already 5 days he is ok and till now even the dog is ok does he need to get vaccinated? Its a road side puppy looked after by my neighbor and stay with them and they said they have vaccinated him. What should I do?
Yes, rabies prophylaxis is recommended for dog bite. One dose of the vaccine is administered on days 0, 3, 7, 14 and 30 intramuscularly. Injections must be given into the deltoid region. Minor scratch without bleeding is classified as category 2 according to WHO classification and immediate vaccination is recommended for such injury. Advice 1. Rabies vaccines (Injection Rabipur) on days on days 0, 3, 7, 14 and 30 intramuscularly 2. Wash the wound with soap and tap water several times 3. Apply any over the counter antiseptic Thanks
