Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My knuckles started hurting today, not bruised or anything, they just ache. I m only 16 so I don t think this is arthritis. I m on the computer a lot and sometimes crack my knuckles but I thought cracking knuckles isn t supposed to be bad for you? Would like to know your thoughts on this. thanks

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
As you describe the symptoms as painless loud crunching noise, I do not think we have any reasons to worry.
Sometimes as a normal phenomena, fluid (synovial fluid) that lubricate the joint release bubbles which pop and crackle with movement. This occurs very commonly after a period of inactivity or during certain movements. I am not sure if this is what you have, but this is my most likely explanation to your symptoms.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
