i am female, 61, 4'10" 110 poounds. I have been a smoker for 40 years. I have been having muscle spasms in my back for 5 years, but more recently they have been more severe. Trying to get diagnosis revealed lung cancer. How often is back muscle spasm related to lung cancer?
Thanks for your question on HCM. In lung cancer, small cell carcinoma can affect muscles and bones. And back muscles and thoracic vertebrae are most commonly involved. It can cause myositis and spasm. It give rise to osteolytic secondaries in thoracic vertebrae which causes osteoporosis and fracture With miminal trauma. So I advice you to get done MRI spine to rule out vertebral metastases and muscle spasm. If fiund than local radiation is treatment of choice with painkillers, muscle relaxant and calcium, vitamin d supplements.
