Is Being Around Welding Work Harmful When Recovering From Pneumonia?

I have been diagnosed with Pneumonia. (7/13) Trying to get a good handle on recovery time and when to head to work. Single income family situation. Was told to rest and go back on 7/16. I am a welding instructor and am worried that dust and debris might be a concern.

Hi,

Yes, it is. There's a significantly bad and then there is the really really bad. When the lungs are inflamed they get sensitized to things they normally would not react to. Work, cold, pollen but these trigger asthma like symptoms but are not truly scary bad. On the other hand, things that actually DAMAGE the lungs like fine dust are far more damaging in this context. Protective equipment does fairly well but not 100%.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
