Is Being Scratched On Hand By A Dog A Cause For Concern?

Hi doctor! I am Ish, 19 years old, female. The other day, I was on my way home when I encountered our neighbor s dog. It is small and skinny. And it doesn t look like it was cared for properly. I am not sure if it was already given anti-rabies. It started to wag its tail so I reached out to it. It was so playful that I think it scratched my hand with its teeth. I immediately washed my hands when I arrived home. Shall I go to the hospital for a vaccine now?

hi.

did the dog bite you? did you notice open wounds and lacerations after? what's your vaccination history?

even if you're currently asymptomatic, it is best if you observe the dog's behavior for now. also, you should go to your nearest health facility for anti-rabies and anti-tetanus shot if you haven't had any yet.

hope this helps.

good day!!
