Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello, my mother is 60 years of age. recently she was diagnosed with liver problems. she had bleeding esophageal varices for which sclerotherapy was done. she is also a ckd patient on regular dialysis. recently she has been taking inderal 40 mg twice a day for portal hypertension. is it okay for her to continue with this? what can be the possible side effects? is betacap tr 40 better than inderal when it comes to having severe side effects?
Inderal might reduce the GFR (kidney function) to some extent in some patients, however normally not in a significant way. But there are many other medical drugs to control the blood pressure. Inderal is a very old medication, today less used against high blood pressure but rather for the treatment of heart conditions and other illnesses. Your mother should discuss this with her nephrologist and GP/family doctor. There is an abundance of medications for this condition.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Alexander Davis, General & Family Physician
