Is Blood In Urine A Cause For Concern?

I believe I have a uti, it s extremely uncomfortable and I am starting to see blood in my urine. It s not painful yet but it has progressed pretty rapidly from very mild symptoms a few hours ago to where I m at now. It s 11pm and I live around the corner from an emergency room. Should I wait it out or go in?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern.
The causes of blood in urine are: bladder or kidney infection; bladder or kidney stones; glomerulonefritis; medication e.g. aspirin, penicillin, heparin, cyclophosmamide etc; tumor in bladder or kidney; kidney injury; vigorous exercise.
I recommend you to go at a nephrologist to determine the cause by making a urine lab test, blood test and imaging tests e.g. kidney ultrasound.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Kind regard,
Dr .Marsida Janko
