Is Bp Of 147/87 Considered High In Elderly Patients?
My mom is 61 & 5ft tall & weighs about 180lbs or so. She took her blood pressure and it was147/87. She is always complaining of excessive sweating & being tired. High blood pressure runs in the family her mother is in renial failure from high blood pressure. Is her blood pressure considered high?
Your mother's blood pressure is not considered high. It can be considered as pre-hypertension. Kindly repeat your mother's blood pressure atleast 2 times more at the interval of 3-4 days. If the blood pressure continues to be more than 140/90 she can be considered as stage 1 hypertension. There is no need for drugs for her hypertension now. She is over weight she should start life style modification ie. weight reduction, salt restriction, diet control and exercise alone will bring down your mother's blood pressure normally. However since her mother is in renal failure it is better to investigate your mother for kidney function to rule out chronic kidney disease in view of her symptoms.
