Is Breastfeeding Safe After Taking High Doses Of Combiflam?

Hi.. I am just getting my wisdom tooth and to reduce the pain I took a couple of combiflams sInce last night. Will it be okay to breastfeed my 6 month old son? Also, is it necessary for me to go and see a dentist or should I just wait till the tooth pops out?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Over the counter available painkillers like Combiflam are safe during breastfeeding as very low amount pass in the breast milk and it does not cause any adverse effects in the newborn children if taken in a prescribed dose.

However, all medications have some effects on passing through the breast milk so care should be taken that you do not take excessive amount of the drug.

As you have taken 2 combiflams in a day, it will not cause any adverse reactions to you or the baby and you can continue to breastfeed. However, if the tooth pain does not come under control in 2 days, it is possible that the wisdom tooth might not have enough space to erupt into oral cavity or it might be infected.

In such case, it is necessary to visit a dentist for clinical examination and investigations like x-ray of the tooth. If the tooth is infected or impacted, it should be extracted for permanent relief.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
