Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Cardiac Catheterization Advisable While Having Spinal Fracture?
What are the risks involved with cardiac catherization? My mother is 87, is experiencing heart failure and has lost a lot of strength. Seemingly healthy and independent up until 6 weeks ago~ suffered a T 12 spinal fracture and it has all been downhill from there. She s very frail and weak. Is C.C. worth the risk? The Dr. wants to be better able to treat whatever is going on in the heart. The family needs to make a decision this week~ yes or no to the C. Cath. Thanks for your advice.
Spinal fracture does not affect cardiac catheterization and she can safely undergo the procedure. However her age is bit on the higher side and procedure itself carried high risk. You can opt for the procedure under high risk.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
