I am 46 years old and in perfect health, i had a blood clot burst im my right eye leaving 50% om my vision from that eye blacked out. I have a cataract in the other eye with a vision of 20/400...... Duke hosp says may not be a good ideal for cataract surgery on the other eye....this leaves me disabled. Most would say yey but i want to fight it so i can get back to work. As of right now i cant drive and wouldnt even know my own mother after 4 foot in distance......Thought please???
Hello and welcome to HCM, You can safely get cataract surgery in the eye where cataract has developed. However, when to get cataract surgery needs to determined by your ophthalmologist. Cataract surgery is a safe surgery with return of good vision after surgery. You will benefit with return of fairly good vision in the cataractous eye. Thus, I suggest you to consult your ophthalmologist and discuss when the surgery can be safely performed.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
