Is Chronic Cough A Symptom Of Pneumonia?

Thank you. I ve just gone to the doctor today for a chronic cough that has lasted over a week. Nothing has helped. In December, I had bronchitis and pneumonia. So, I m worried. Another lung X-ray is scheduled for tomorrow. I m on antibiotic, cough suppressants, and Motril for inflammation. I have a couple of events involving groups of people in the next two days. Should I go? Or wait until I know if I indeed have pneumonia again. Don t feel sick this time, like I did last time, but the cough has been intense.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to hcm,

As you had bronchitis earlier, persistent cough indicates you might be having chronic bronchitis. If there is associated pneumonia there will be other symptoms like fever, breathlessness, chestpain etc...If you don't have above symptoms then you are unlikely to be having pneumonia. However I advise you to avoid smoking, dust and get xray as early as possible.

Thank you
