Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Chronic Fatigue Along With Loss Of Appetite Related To Lactic Acidosis?
My son was recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes and is taking metformin. His dosage was changed to taking 2 pills twice a day and his sugar level is wonderful now. Also I must add that he also (last week) had his gallbladder out. His incisions look great but he is worthless everyday. He is extremely tired all the time, no appetite, just all round ill feeling. I was just reading about Lactic Ascetosis. Does this sound like it might be that to you?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Loss of appetite and tiredness what your son is having might not be related to lactic acidosis. Sometimes, loss of appetite is noticed following gall bladder surgery. He may take a couple of weeks to regain the appetite. In the meantime, he may be supplemented with enzyme preparation syrup or syrup Liv52, which should improve his appetite. Once he regains his appetite, his tiredness should slowly fade away. Since he is known diabetic, it is essential to do proper follow-up with your doctor.
Hope the information provided helps.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.
