Is Chronic Pain In The Arm Due To Nerve Damage?

originally my hand I thought was a torn tendon in the palm. In favoring the palm I mowed the lawn & removed the grass catcher using the left arm about 50 times since I had to keep stopping the lawn mover to remove grass. Now the whole arm is numb. Stretching my arm out fully extended to reach for opening a door has occurred 3 or 4 times causing a sharp pain all the way down the arm. So what started out as a lower palm wrist injury has now become what I think is a major nerve damage in my arm. Or could it be hardening of the arteries instead of nerve damage?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, the chronic pain can be due to nerve damage. I suggest you to take painkillers such as Ibuprofen. If the symptoms continue you should a physical examination and a MRI for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
