Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello my name s Annette I am 28 years old and I recently had a pacemaker put in on January 19th I have since then seen my cardiologists and he did not give me any limitations about me having a pacemaker but I would like to know if it s okay for me to smoke cigarettes while I have a pacemaker I do not smoke every single day but occasionally I do will that affect me in the long run?
While the pacemaker itself would not be affected by our smoking and would work the same as if we don't smoke, But the fact is that smoking itself is such a huge risk for heart disease that even in a normal person it is quite a poison not to mention for someone who already has some heart problems.
So it's best to quit it. I know it's not easy but there are ways. There are drugs that may help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
General & Family Physician
