Last summer my son had gone into the dr for pink eye and they gave him tobramycin. He woke up this morning (while staying at grandparents house) with it again and they had ciprofloxacin at the house as a medicated eye drop and gave it to him. Is this safe for a 2 year old?
Hello It seems from the history that your 2 year old son is having pink eye because of conjunctivitis. It is treated by antibiotic eye drops. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic and it should be avoided in children because of side effects affecting the growth. Hence aminoglycosides like tobramycin are preferred for treatment in children below 8 years of age .
Thank you
