I've been taking APO Minocycline for my acne for almost 5 years now.. It never really did much until I also started taking Clindoxyl as well.. however I want to know if since there was no significant effect before clindoxyl if I could just stop the Minocycline cold turkey without aving to worry about my acne coming back. My skin is practically flawless since the Clindoxyl.
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
The topical preparation that you have been using is a combination of clindamycin 1% and benzoyl peroxide 5%. It is an excellent topical antiacne preparation and is quite effective on its own, for mild to moderately severe inflammatory acne. Minocycline is an Oral antibiotic and is reserved for acne that is moderately severe and inflammatory in nature. Minocycline is usually combined with topical antiacne preparations like clindamycin/ benzoyl peroxide and should not be the sole treatment for acne. Oral antibiotics are not meant for prophylactic or maintenance purposes, therefore, once significant acne improvement has been achieved with oral antibiotics can be stopped. The improvement can be subsequently maintained with just topical antiacne preparation.
