Is Colonoscopy Advisable For An Elderly Person?

My mother is 83 years old and the doctor wants to check for inflammation or infection of the colon. Because she has had loose stool movements for 2 weeks and a bacterial infection is suspected, the stool test is still pending. He may want to do a colonscopy and this concerns me because of her age. Do your reccomend this? Thanks
