Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am hpv positive and have had genital warts in the past. I ve had a colposcopy in the past and am scheduled for another because the PAP indicates something. My question is.....even though I have had the same partner for over a year....do I need to always use a condom?
HPV is very common in adults and can be transmitted through sexual contact easily. Also, since the virus is never completely removed from the body and the chance of getting warts is usually very low, most doctors do not advise using barrier contraceptions if you only have one partner.
However, if there is a risk of getting any other sexually transmitted disease or if you wish to use a contraceptive method but are not using contraception pills, then using a condom would be useful.
Also, follow your doctors advice on the number and frequency and PAP smears that you should be getting.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
