Hi doctor, my baby was born with 4 kilos he is now 3 1/2 months old weighing 7 1/2 kilos, he is waking up every 2 hours for a feed and seems always hungry, he is formula feed he can hold his head up right with no help and looks at people when eating, just want to get an opinion if I can introduce him solids. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

He seems to be gaining weight normally so I have no concern about him being hungry and not getting enough. The general consensus is that it is not advisable to start them on solids until 6 months of age, which is when their digestive system gets more mature and they can handle the solid foods. Before that, it might make them more prone to constipation, colic, or even cause choking.

Weaning them at this age is really to introduce them to different types of food, and not to make them feel fuller or sleep better. He could be getting up more for various reasons, like teething or growth spurts.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Teh
