Is Consumption Of Alcohol And Meat After Gastric Bypass And Cholecystectomy A Cause For Concern?
recently when I have a half a glass of wine or when I eat a burgar I get very ill. I had gastric bypass 18yrs ago lost 150lbs. that I have managed to keep off with the up and down of 10lbs. Im so concerned as ive also had lower abdominal pain off and on that ive never experienced either. Ive had my gallbladder out over 20yrs ago, and other than these things feel wonderful in my life. Should I worry that I can no longer ingest meats or even the smallest amount of alcohol? im perfectlty fine not to ever drink again its just noticeable.

Is Consumption Of Alcohol And Meat After Gastric Bypass And Cholecystectomy A Cause For Concern?
Hello, From your description, I am of the opinion that Meat and alcohol require pancreatic enzymes for digestion which are stored in gall bladder for use. In absence of gall bladder not enough of pancreatic enzymes are at disposal for use. So they are not digested much. So what you have noticed is correct. You can start as small amounts at a time and titrate the amount accordingly. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
