Is Cotinine Tested Before A Lower Body Lift Through Plastic Surgery?
I am scheduled to have a lower body lift in one month. I currently smoke between 4-5 cigarettes a day. The plastic surgeon does a test 2 weeks prior and the day of surgery. I don t know what type of test they use, (saliva, urine or blood) and I don t know what level they test for (ng/mL). Is there one type of test typically used by surgeons to test for cotinine?

Hello,
It's always advised to stop smoking at least 3 weeks before a major surgery. Here are few facts:
1) Cotinine in urine become undetectable after 3-4 days of stopping tobacco products
2) Cotinine in blood becomes undetectable after 7-10 days of stopping tobacco products
3) Most of the time Cotinine is tested in urine
4) You must give up smoking at least 10-14 days before surgery.
Smoking also hinders healing.
