Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yellow color sputum which comes on coughing and which is associated with fever indicates that he has infection of the respiratory tract. To rule out pneumonia, a x-ray of chest needs to be taken. Accordingly, he needs to be treated with an appropriate course of antibiotics.

He would also require mucolytic medication. Also supportive therapy in the form of nebulization, steam inhalation and salt water gargling would be helpful for early recovery. Kindly consult a physician for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
