Is Density In Right Lung A Cause For Concern?

I had a chest xray a week ago - now they say I need a ct scan on right lung because of density - I ve never smoked but was raised with a father who smoked and then I married a man who smoked for 20 years - I ve had a cough for awhile and asked my doctor for an xray - I m 74 year old female, still working, and pretty scared about what this all means - can you tell me anything while I await the scan?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A density in the lung's x-ray can be due to several possible conditions and your doctor would very likely want to rule out a tumor as a cause of it. Its presence does not necessary mean cancer but having the CT scan will help reassure us.
This is why the CT scan is recommended and when it is done more information will be available on the nature of the lesion and further steps to manage it.

I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
