Is Dialysis Advisable For An Elderly Person With COPD?

Hello my father is a 81 year old man with bad COPD and uses oxygen 24/7 he also has congenital heart disease and his kidneys are shutting down. My question is today they are going to start dialysis but is already so weak and can t even stand up. Will this help him?

Hi.

Noted the short history about your 91 years oldFather having COPD, Congestive heart disease and shutting down of kidneys needing for dialysis.
Your question has a point that your Father is 81 years old and having an established diagnosis of COPD and heart problems.
Since the kidney are shutting down the only possible way to clear the body of urea and other waste products of body metabolism which is a must for other body parts to function optimally.
Go for dialysis is advised so as the Doctors would have decided to go for dialysis only if they believe is going to help the patient.
Have no doubts and you can always discuss with the treating Doctors/Specialists. Can take second opinion of another Doctors if you feel so.
