Is Diarrhea And Abdominal Cramping Normal In An Early Pregnancy?

I have been having headaches, heartburn in the morning, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. I did a home pregnancy test and it came out positive. Is the diarrhea and abdominal cramping normal in an early pregnancy? (I m still in dial....as far as the pregnancy.)

Do not worry much.

Diarrhea is one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy, occurring along with nausea and vomiting.

Like constipation, diarrhea during pregnancy can occur due to certain hormonal changes within the body during this time.

Changes in the diet, extra water intake, the iron content in prenatal vitamins, food poisoning, these are some possible reasons for diarrhea during pregnancy.

In most cases, it does not cause any harm to the baby.
However, severe diarrhea can dehydrate the mother, hampering the blood flow to the fetus.

Although, it is a common symptom of pregnancy, one should not neglect constant diarrhea as it is one of the common causes of preterm labor.

Generally diarrhea subsides automatically after a couple of days. In such instances, you have to retain water and electrolytes by drinking plenty of water and taking ORS, preventing dehydration and providing relief from the symptoms.

If you found chronic and disabling diarrhea, you should consult your doctor and go according to her advice.

All the best. Take care.
