Is Discoloration Along With Swelling Around The Eyes Normal After A Concussion?
My 50 year old daughter fell and hit her forehead last night and we went to the emergency room and she has a concussion. Today she has large darkness and puffiness around both eyes and they are almost swollen shut. Does she need to return to the emergency room or is this natural?
The symptoms you describe are consistent with what would be expected to be seen when someone suffered a strong blow to the head and was left with a contusion of the frontal area of the head or the scalp. Basically, there is a bruise that has occurred and now soft tissue swelling from blood and other fluids in the orbits have formed.
The lay term for what your daughter has is "raccoon's eyes." Unless, there are additional symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, blurry vision, or frank bleeding from the eyes or ears there's no reason to return to the ER.
Hope I have answered your query.
