Is Doctor Consultation Advisable After Recovering From Nausea And Vomiting?

Hi I recently went camping at a lake which was infected with blue-green algae. I avoided the water but for recreational purposes went fishing. While fishing i had a snall droplet of water splash back onto my face and also touched the line which had been in the water. A couple of days late I was extremely ill with nausea, vomiting. Aches and pains and headache. I have recovered but was worried it may be a serious illness, should I see a doctore for a check up or am I okay?

Hello,

You were infected by blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). These bacteria mostly grow in still water. We will get infection not only by contact but also by drinking and inhalation. Generally, they produce some poisonous substances (microcystin toxin) which are neurotoxic and hepatotoxic.

By seeing your symptoms we can confirm the infection of blue-green algae. It can be further confirmed by testing the water in a laboratory for the presence of blue-green algae.

It is a little bit difficult to eradicate blue-green algae. You can follow the below:
1. Erythromycin 200mg
2. Avoid drinking alcohol
3. Do not use acetaminophen

There is no need to worry as it will subside soon. But prevention is always better in case of value green algae to avoid complications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
