Is Drug Screen Test Showing Positive For Amphetamines And Methamphetamines While Being On Adderall For ADHD Concerning?

My husband and I are both prescribed Adderall for ADHD. We both had to go in for a drug screen and mine was fine but my husband s came back positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines. The one giving the test said this was fairly common. I was just wondering how common it is and is this an indicator that Adderall isn t quite as safe as we were lead to believe? Both of our young children are also prescribed Adderall (ages 6 and 8). Also, my husband takes medication for paranoid schizophrenia and doesn t need anything going against his medication for that.

Hi,

Adderall contains salts of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine. So it is not unusual that your husband's sample tested positive for amphetamines. Adderall is approved for use in both children and adults with ADHD but is also prone to be abused because of its stimulant nature. However, you need not worry as long as you continue to take it as prescribed by your doctor.
