Is Dysphasia Related To Parkinson S Disease?

I have parkinsons. I have a little dysphagia and have had a negative esophagram with trace reflux. No strictures are noted and sswallowing of barium appeared normal. The doctor recommends a dilation. I m not sure why, with no narrowing noted. Could the dysphasia be related to the Parkinsons i.e. nerves not pumping the food into the stomach at a regular rate.

I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Dysphagia is common problem in parkinsonism. Your barium study is normal so there is no obstruction and dilatation is not required.

You should take dopaminergic therapy.

Expiratory Muscle Strength Training. (EMST) & Video Assisted Swallowing Therapy (VAST) can be helpful in parkinson related dysphagia.

Consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly.
