Is Ear Piercing Safe For 1 Year Child?

Hi Doc, Would like to know how safe is ear piercing for my 1 year 10 months daughter? If yea, Please could you help address following: 1. Piercing through gunshot in a jewerelly shop safe enough? 2. What are the precautionary measures? 3. Any medication needed post that? Thanks, Swati

Hi Swati,
I understand your concern.
Ear piercing for your daughter is safe and you can get it done by gunshot in a jewelry shop also. But it is always safe to get it done in a hospital through gunshot technique as it requires aseptic precautions to be taken.
After the piercing, keep the hole clean and see that it doesn't get infected till the wound heals.
Generally this procedure is painless. In case the baby develops fever due to pain, you can use acetaminophen suspension to treat the same.
