Is Early Menstrual Periods With A Longer Duration Of Flow A Cause For Concern?

Hello. I ve been on birth control for 4 years. periods have been pretty regular, I ve missed a month or two throughout those 4 years but other than that they always come at the same time and always last for 3 days. But this month my period came 2 weeks early and ive been on it for 7 days. What does this mean?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Because you are bleeding outside of your due date for your menstrual periods, it is advisable to have a urinary pregnancy test and rule out pregnancy first.
If the pregnancy test is negative then the bleeding can be a possible side effect of oral contraception. If the bleeding lasts more than 2 weeks or recurs, you will need to see your doctor.

I hope I have answered your query and have been helpful to you.

I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
