Is Ejection Factor Of 8.2% A Cause For Concern?

Hello, I have a young friend at church. She is 22 yo, has been diagnosed with CHF about 8 months, early kidney failure and DMII. She lives in and out of the hospital. A week ago she was admitted with SOB. Her doctors have told her that her EF is 8.2% and she may not live another 4 months without a transplant. He told her she must try to lose 50 lbs before the surgery but she is exhausted all the time. He put her on the active transplant list now. What hope is there for her and is it even safe for her to attempt weight loss?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Actual weight loss to drastic level might be detrimental for her health via multiple endocrine dysfunctions affecting already compromised heart.

Should wait for heart transplant with due underlying risk to life. Let's hope for her best recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
