Is Elevated Heart Rate Due To Albuterol Prescribed For Pneumonia?
I was diagnosed with a heart murmur back in 1977. I recently was prescribed albuterol for treating a case of walking pneumonia - This is not the first time I ve used albuterol, but I did notice my heart racing a bit after taking this time. Is there any correlation or reason for concern?
Hi, I'm dr.Fahad Khan and i have read your case ,I'll try my best to be of utmost help. First of all tachycardia ( increased heart rate) could be due to albuterol use,the frequency depends upon the formulation used and dose of albuterol. Plus as you said that you were diagnosed with the heart condition in 1977, in this state tachycardia is alarming and albuterol should be stopped rather you should consult your pulmonologist as albuterol is contraindicated when a patient with previously diagnosed heart problem starts having tachycardia .hope i was helpful. Regards.
